Album Premiere: Karim Nagi "Huzam"

We are proud to be able to premiere the new EP, "Huzam", from Karim Nagi which will officially be released tomorrow, August 19th.

"Huzam" is not only the title of this EP, but it is an Arab maqam musical scale that starts and ends on a microtone.

This project was performed by four Chicago-based native Arab musicians; Karim Nagi (Egypt) is the composer and percussionist, using a fish skin riqq Arab tambourine. Ronnie Malley (Palestine) performs on the oud lute, and was crucial to the album recording process. The ensemble is completed by Naeif Rafeh (Syria) playing the nay flute, and Emad Roushdy Ibrahim (Egypt) on the Arabic-tuned keman violin.

The Joe Policastro Trio "Take on Me" (A-ha Cover)

We are proud to be able to premiere the new single, "Take on Me", from The Joe Policastro Trio. This is a cover of the classic A-ha song, and is taken from their forthcoming fifth album, Sounds Unheard 2012-2022, which is due out tomorrow, August 12th.

The album combines recordings made by the trio from its earliest iteration to the present day, and is comprised of new material and unused tracks from the band’s previous albums. Aside from one original tune, "Whose Muse," the album demonstrates the ability of the trio of Joe Policastro (bass), Dave Miller (guitar), and Mikel Avery (drums) to turn a classic song inside out and find something new every time.
