Parrot Dream

Parrot Dream celebrate LP release at Union Pool on 08.24

Parrot Dream’s debut album Light Goes is full of emotionally wrought dream-pop that unfolds in small yet powerful moments. The crystalline guitars and subtle synthesizers offer up shimmering tunes that balance sobering reality with fully realized dreamscapes. The equilibrium they’ve struck between these ideals comes through fully realized with songs like “Ode To Octavia”, where the group isn’t afraid to add a little grit to their sparkling sound. The band will celebrate the album release on August 24 with a show at Union Pool. –Tucker Pennington

Get Carried Away Fest features emerging NYC bands on a yacht on 08.04

Scheduled for August 4th from 4pm to midnight, the third edition of the Get Carried Away Music Festival this year features ten bands, mostly from the NYC area. On the bill also drinks, food and cool Brooklyn wares, all on board of the historic Timeless yacht during the perfect time of year to enjoy those East River breezes to cool off the hot August nights. The festival features mostly female-fronted groups, which is refreshing and also fair, since women have been producing some of the best indie music in recent times.

There's still room for five more artists which will be selected through a special Battle of the Bands contest taking place on June 2 at Kingsland Bar in Greenpoint, 6pm-midnight. Band/artist submissions can be emailed to kelly.isaacs@getcarriedawaymusic.com.

The festival is now offering discount tickets at $65 each to the first 100 festival goers. Tickets are available here and on the festival website. Check out a playlist of the local bands playing this event, streaming below! - Meghan Rose

Parrot Dream bring Chile flavored dream pop to Brooklyn Bazaar, 09.14

Parrot Dream's discography showcases the gradual development of their dream-pop aesthetic, which features a peculiar Latin twist (the band is originally from Chile).

In their song "On Your Own," Parrot Dream teases the listener into an all-too-familiar melancholy before jumping in with a groovy bass line and electrifying hi-hat, reminiscent of the Chilean disco scene.

Make sure to partake in the experience at the Brooklyn Bazaar on 09.14 alongside our other featured bands, Triathalon and Mons Vi. --Amanda Ogea

Parrot Dream and Beach Moon, Peach Moon play the Silent Barn on 8.03

Some artists are able to create music that provides the perfect accompaniment to life as we imagine it in our most hopeful moments - which in turns actually helps us live a better existence. NYC bands Beach Moon, Peach Moon and Parrot Dream (pictured) play elegant dream pop that's just as good of a companion on the commute to work as it is during a night spent alone with our thoughts. Beach Moon, Peach Moon’s lo-fi shoegaze is filled with warm, melancholic guitars and softly lush, self-reflective vocals, and often juxtaposes melancholic instrumentation to optimistic lyrics, like in opening track 'Philosophy at 23/at 24' (streaming). Slightly more upbeat, the dream pop of Parrot Dream is centered around Christina Appel's vocals and her lyrics, which heavily rely on metaphors to construct poignant and distinct imagery. Both bands will be playing at the Silent Barn on August 3rd. - John Honan
