Miniature Tigers

Q&A with Miniature Tigers about gear the creative process

Miniature Tigers first release since 2014, I Dreamt I Was A Cowboy is a short departure from the group's previous releases--often unpolished, organic, and lovingly displaying the dirt and hiccups that come from recording via couch surfing. Charlie Brand, the band's vocalist, guitarist, and one of the main forces spearheading the recording of the album, was kind enough to talk to our sister blog Delicious Audio about the making of the record, his inspiration, and some of the gear that gives the band their distinctive feel - check out the link to the interview below!

Miniature Tigers talk about gear and the creative process behind 'I Dreamt I Was A Cowboy.'

Ela Minus brings her unique electronica to Sunnyvale 10/22

Brooklyn by way of Bogota artist, Ela Minus, crafts intricate electronic melodies that feel avant but strangely absorbing. Her instrumentals, which are strong but subtle, are paired with a quirky, gossamer vocal performance, and the combination of the two--especially on standout track "Volcán"--creates an unexpectedly bright track that might make your day. Ela Minus has a new record scheduled for a November release. Catch her live at Sunnyvale 10/22 with Miniature Tigers, and in the meantime stream her below. - Olivia Sisinni

Miniature Tigers return with single 'Dreaming' - new LP out on 10.22

We always have a special place in our heart for the bands that were rewarded with the NYC Record of the Month, and Miniature Tigers (a band currently split between NYC, LA and Arizona) is one of them. The quirky synth pop quartet just unveiled this new single entitled 'Dreaming,' from their upcoming full length 'I Dreamt I Was A Cowboy,' due out October 28th. We are glad to report that the quirkiness hasn't abandoned them, but was actually taken to the next level, with a track that incorporates elements of 8 bit music, ondulating analog synths, and fluid melodies that contrast with the angular nature of the arrangement. If this is a dream, it's of the bizarre variety. The band will be in NYC at Sunnyvale on December 22nd.

Release news from Miniature Tigers, A Place to Bury Strangers, Woods and Bear in Heaven

After a rather quiet period, lots of breakout NYC bands are sending us news about upcoming releases. Rad avant-pop band Miniature Tigers are releasing their new full length "Mia Pharaoh" today, it can be streamed here - definitely looking forward to that one. Electro-Dream-Pop outfit Bear in Heaven (pictured), after playing a secret show in New York last week, released another track (entitled "Sinful Nature, streaming below) from their brand new LP "I Love You, It's Cool" out April 3rd on Dead Oceans/Hometapes. Glo-fi pioneers Woods just released a split album with California based band Amps for Christ, and are streaming one song from it on Pitchfork here. They also announced an April tour. Finally, noise masters A Place to Bury Strangers is releasing a split 7" with SF Ceremony under Famous Class Records, for a series of singles called "Less Artists More Condos", dedicated to DIY NYC promoter Ariel Panero, who died in December of 2010. The proceeds of these releases will entirely go to the Ariel Panero Memorial Fund
