The sweetness of fleeting sound. The frantic grasp of ears from one measure to the next.

Alright, listen up, this one is important. Eidolons are taking over Mississippi Studios July 30th in what might indeed be their last show for an indefinite amount of time. Ian Wollman, their “beloved BASS player/friend/chinese scholar” is moving to China. As they say, go big or go to China. Well the band is certainly going big as they will use Wednesday night's show as a release party for their brand new double EP, The Big Yellow Shirt / Hard Hang in a Deep Country.  If this is a memorial for the band... let’s make it a monument.

Over the past six odd years, Eidolons have been engaging in collective sonic masonry, crafting their sound into the Frank Gehry of basement rock as evidenced by their most recent 2013 release, Skyhook. Frontperson, guitarist/vocalist Dan Byer’s crooning tenor sands and smooths the band’s oft jagged garage sounds whilst still making room for the occasional folk tinged slow-dance.

The band describes The Big Yellow Shirt / Hard Hang in a Deep Country, as having “some raucous tush-pushers on one side, some smooth gravy on the other.” Sounds delicious. The double EP is currently available for digital download through their Bandcamp page on a pay-what-you-want basis, but physical CDs and cassettes will be available at Wednesday night's show.

Eidolons will be sharing the night with buddy bands, Animal Eyes and Talkative who are stellar experimental, noisy space punkers with enough energy for all. They’ll play how they feel while you feel how they play. 

Curated by local all-star Theo Craig, this week’s Rontoms Sundays Session is simply a must catch event. Eidolons headline the show with their quiet, fluttering vocals, hard hitting drums and jazzy, progressive rock. Seattle’s Cataldo boasts smooth pop and catchy songwriting. Opening the night is Portland's new low-fi/grunge/pop band Bed, who is also one of the bands in our current Artist of the Month Poll (tomorrow, 3/22, is the last day to vote for Bed, Daydream Machine, or Swansea in our Poll here). Bed will be releasing their single, Brother, and it's accompanying music video at the show. You’ll sure feel weird if you miss out.

The Deli Portland has cooked up something special for you this Friday night at the fantastic Mt. Tabor Theater. The Lower 48 will be rocking the concert hall with their captivating harmonies and vintage tones alongside the progressive indie rock compositions of Eidolons, and Bike Thief’s moving post-folk anthems. In the Lounge, The North Wind will be putting on a performance of epic proportions supported by Soft Shadows’ hypnotic brand of shoegaze and the enchanting dream-pop of Appendixes. The show starts at 9pm sharp, come on out and experience some of the most delicious music that Portland has to offer.

You can hear elements of nearly all of Portland’s music circles in Eidelons progressive ballads, and as a result they might be one of the best representations of the city’s music. Their indie rock riffs are played with the purity of a garage rock band atop blistering rhythms that aren’t without an experimental edge. Still they retain a certain pop sensibility within the crooning vocals of Dan Beyers and their occasional blending of a folk influence that seems to be ever present in stumptown.
