If it seems like it's been a while since you heard from Oginalii, you might want to clean out your ears. They've stormed across the Rust Belt over the past few months playing shows in support of their upcoming album Cause and Affection. To mark the release, they'll play The Basement on April 5th, which is when the album will drop wherever you get your music. Back in November, The Deli wrote about "Forgotten Kindness", a single from the album which highlighted the intense sound that main shredder Emma Hoeflinger crafted to complement the call to empathy in her lyrics. Just last month, the band released "Light As A Feather", a darker track about managing and struggling to cope with anxiety in a healthy way. Emma Hoeflinger of Oginalii has an affinity for Annie Clark; she aspires to be like the mind behind St. Vincent with her fearless guitar riffs and forward-thinking lyrics. She'll take the stage at The 5 Spot on December 5th in order to showcase her and her band's talents on the heels of their debut full-length album Cause and Affection, which drops in April 2019. The band have released three singles in the past few months: "Further In/Out", a feminist banger about rattling society's cages; "No Littering", about freedom of choice; and "Forgotten Kindness", a call to empathy. Oginalii has progressed since 2013 from an acoustic act to a full band electric onslaught of musical might; you can catch them at The 5 Spot on 12/05 to see them in action. When it comes to the Nashville-based sludge-pop four-piece Oginalii, slowing down is not an option. With forthcoming EP The Grey coming out on October 20th, their build-up of momentum has been nonstop, between coverage, concerts, and SXSW showcases —and their music is the same way. The female-fronted group, whose name translates to “my friend” in Cherokee, is making waves in the Nashville scene with their complex arrangements, unapologetic songwriting, and technical skill. In the track “7799” (streaming below), front-woman Emma Hoeflinger’s vocals are positively lethal, while the track impressively alternates between a 7/8 and 9/8 time signature. Oginalii will be hitting up The Cobra tomorrow (09.22) for a live show that will definitely hush any doubts about the state of the local Nashville scene. - Lilly Milman
